The first step in this process is to visit www.grants.gov on this site you will find the launch pad for almost everything you will need in researching and applying for government
grants. Go to Apply For Grants link and click on “prepare to apply for grants”. Under the heading Register to
Submit Applications you will need complete the following three tasks. This is the process you’ll be required to perform
before having an opportunity to submit any proposals. This process involves setting up and registering your business and your
company, point of contact and getting verification through a Registered Credential Provider. The entire process is stated
to take about 1-2 weeks according to the site, but you should plan for about 3-5 weeks.
Second step will be to register for email notification of grant opportunities and this can be done from the home page
under the heading Find Grant Opportunities. This step can be done at anytime, but please keep in mind that although an effort
is made on the part of the site administrators to confine the offerings to your specifications you’ll still be receiving
a lot of unwanted opportunities. We make the suggestion for subscribing to this service early in the process so you can start
to see what is available, but also recommend that you unsubscribe within about four weeks because the amount of meaningless
information will have an adverse affect on your overall research program. You can always restate your subscription at a latter
time.
From the current home page: Under the heading, Find Grant Opportunities go to Resources for Grants. From this point
on you will be given the links that you should follow. At times, important information will be included and will be noted.
Again it is wise to remember that knowing where not to go is going to of far greater value than knowing where to go. This
is said to keep you from falling from the intended path and we do guarantee that you will be tempted to do just that, but
unless you have unlimited time and energy it would be wise to go where we direct you.

The reason for directing you through an entire thread as opposed to just giving you the web address is because each of these
agencies and departments will have some rules and guidelines outside of the basics covered in your original application registry,
and it is important for you to know where to find this information.

Note:
This site for the Department of Energy will include direction to all current and available grant opportunities within the
AE sector. We did not include direction to each section of this site due to the overwhelming amount of information. You are
best served by choosing the link that corresponds to your specific field and following each of the links that are provided.
You should spend a substantial amount of time on the EERE site to learn more about the many AE related offerings. Don’t
fear that your independent search will overlook potential opportunities because any of the critical ones that we feel have
a broad appeal will show up in latter sections of the guide.
